I’m not quite ready as I haven’t bought a house yet, but, I will be buying a house this year hopefully. So, I’ve been giving some thought to homebrew 11m antenna design.

In particular I’m thinking about something low profile, probably a wire antenna of some sort. I initially thought about a simple centre fed half wave.

But, what about an end fed half wave wire with a balun?

I’m not particularly worried about gain, or having something that is omi-directional, and I understand polarisation issues.

So, if I go the balun route, would a 4:1 be suitable?

why not copy the centerfed dipole they call a gainmaster ??
or make a full size loop, or delta loop, dual band inverted V in the loft,
or failing that a good mobile aerial on a groundplane kit in the loft..
or if you can have up an aerial, why build one, just buy one, cheap enough, £15 upwards..even secondhand 827 around £20 and £25..!!

My biggest surprise was when I adapted a 10M vertical vee for 27mhz back in the eighties. I was quoted 0.2Db over a horizontal, but found (although I could not measure Db then) that my first contact on AM was Germany! My friends on the same channel could not hear my contact at all.
There seemed to be a certain element (no pun intended) of directional behaviour.
For an antenna made of two bits of speaker wire taped to a couple of bamboo garden poles, it outperformed anything else I ever made.

ill echo what Mr pimp says, easy to build your own and is very cheap!!!

I'm not sure what the impedence is at the end of a 1/2 lambda antenna (there's plenty of reference to it on the web) but it is way way outside your 4:1 balun ratio and is more unun in nature, for simplicity I'd stick with the dipole or maybe a 1/4 lambda over ground plane type antenna ;)

if ya wanna make a wire antenna, avoid end fed!
only inverted v , halo or even a delta loop(triangle) 9x9x9. the latter will be directional depending on which way the house is positioned of course .
make inverted v with multiple wires cut for different bands.
i love experimenting with wire antennas , save ya sell some dosh and make ya own ;)
i made my own double hybride quad for 2m and its amazing :D :ugeek:
