Hi, today I recieved my 3500xlt and downloaded bctool. i have started to program the scanner via bctool.

So far I have two systems and two groups within as follows:

Civil Airports (Quickkey1)
Cardiff(1)
Bristol (2)
Sectors(2)
Bristol (1)
Berry Head (2)

In each group I have my frequencies. When i press scan on the scanner is it scanning all the frequencies in each system and group??

Also when inputting the frequencies onto BCtool, do I only need to enter the Alpha and frequencies or do I need to change any of the settings?

Its so complicated to use. Going to take me a while I think

Keep the quick keys different for each system.

All will be scanning unless you lock them out with the quickey. But it's just a case of pressing the quickkey number again to unlock.

Yes the 3500xlt will be scanning all the freqs in the groups, if you want it to scan a particular system longer or change how long it waits until scanning again after it finds some activity you can adjust the hold & delay time.

You can alter some of the other settings in bctool if you like, its up to you. For example you might want to set an audible alert when the scanner stops on a particular freq or you could set that freq as a priority. Its up to you.

If it is scanning too fast for you to see what it is doing (and with that few channels it will be) set the squelch to 0, and turn the knob to see each channel it is scanning in turn.

It will be scanning all the freqs in each system and group as long as you have them all unlocked. You can scroll through them from the scan screen by holding function and turning the dial. Then you can see if they are locked or unlocked by the little symbol on the screen.
If you have set a number for the groups (inside the systems), you can turn them on and off (the groups, not the systems) by holding function and pressing the number assigned.
Hope that all makes sense

Certainly any air or marine traffic would be good

I'm re kindling an old hobby which I've been quiet on for a good few years since I sold my aor 8000

Been listening I Irish air band on the iPhone etc so will tune around for anything

I'm new to south Wales (Swansea) scanning as previously I was living in Kent so not sure what's around here but with a good line of sight to Devon ad Bristol channel in guessing it won't be bad

Currently looking to upgrade the antenna on the handset to a Watson supergainer as well

The new scanning is certainly a different beast to the air and I thought a few Pre set / predefined freq lists in decent format would give me a leg up

Thanks for taking the time to reply

Stu
