After introducing several new AM and FM radios into the European market President have finally turned their attention back to SSB as demand for a new euro-norm compliant model has started to increase after many of the classics were discontinued due to RoHS regulations. Production of the original President Jackson, Lincoln and George stopped several years ago thus having been deemed uneconomic to keep on producing under the new EU regulations for type approval.

25 years have now passed since CB was legalised in the UK. One could argue that many things have changed and the sparkle and magic has been lost when it comes to receiving far away signals through the ether. Nevertheless CB radio is still with us although the number of users has declined significantly. This has had the effect of reducing the amount of new equipment available on the market.

Paul Beckett takes a look at one of President’s most popular CB radios, the Jackson. This radio has aquired an almost legendary status amongst the CB communities. This is the first review in the CB section for quite some time so enjoy! The president Jackson has been in production for a number of years, right back to the days of the silver fronted Jackson in the early part of the eighties. This radio has got to have been one of the longest production ranges in the president series and even today it out performs most other Uniden based chassis.

Jack has been busy once again! This time he takes a look at the all-time classic, the famous Lincoln.

The good old Lincoln has been around for many years now. I had my first once in 1992, and it was an old rig then. They had an almost mythical status when they were new as the most advanced CB radio ever. Now they get a bit of a slagging for having poor performance and poor coverage, just shows you how things progress I suppose. There are a lot of modifications available for this set. Such as more power, loads of minor improvements and there is a “chipswitch” modification available which allows them to tune down to 24 MHz and also adds memories and repeater shifts, among other extras. This will allow them to cover the 12m amateur band and make them a HF dual bander. But this review will only cover the standard set.
